Reflection 2

Our second project was to create a virtual tour about a topic in our subject area that could be used by students at the high school or middle school level. I chose to do my virtual tour about the periodic table, how to read /use the information given on the table, how the table is organized, as well as some of the trends found in the table. By creating a virtual tour, I was working on NETS standard 2a where a teacher designs an authentic learning experience that incorporates digital tools and resources to promote student learning. I found this to be a creative way for students to explore the periodic table instead of me simply talking about it in front of the class. By creating a virtual lesson, the lesson almost become hands on for the students and uses digital tools to promote student learning.

Reflection 1

The first assignment we completed in this class was to build a website that we could use if we were teaching a class. The website gave parents and student's information about my portfolio and useful information about how internet relates to the classroom. By learning to build a website, I was working on the NETS standard 5c of engaging in professional growth and leadership. I feel building this website helps exemplify this standard because it helped me to promote and effectively use the digital resources available to me. Something I really liked about my website was that by including a picture and some information about myself I feel it gives parents and students a better idea of who I truly am both inside and outside of the classroom. By developing this website, I have learned a new way to use the Internet as a way to improve my classroom for not only me, but parents and students as well. I would like to build on the website building skills I have learned so I can make my website more advanced and even more user friendly.
